The Chief Engineer position is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and care for all aspects of the Kia Forum. Maintenance of the physical facility includes all electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire life-safety building systems. The Chief Engineer will advise and consult on the purchasing and installation of building systems. In conjunction with the VP Arena Operations, the Chief Engineer will establish a high level of facility appearance, functionality and operational standards that will firmly maintain the reputation and status of The Forum as a premier entertainment facility. The Chief Engineer will be the key management contact for all building engineering functions during events. Strong electrical experience is a must.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the Kia Forum Engineering and Maintenance departments with an emphasis on safety, code compliance and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain a self-sufficient maintenance program including all electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, plumbing, and HVAC equipment. Review the program regularly to ensure it is up to date.
  • Ensure compliance with all city, county, state, fire building and safety codes and provide a comfortable environment for guests, employees, and clients.
  • Maintain all city and LA County agency inspection records and ensure timely inspections.
  • Establish and manage required service contracts to generators, BAS system, lighting control system, chillers, boilers, elevators, chemical treatment stations, water softeners and cooling towers.
  • Manage the operation of waste systems and grease interceptors.
  • Perform duties of the Fire Safety Director. Manage the operation and care of fire life safety systems including the fire alarm system, pre action system, sprinklers, standpipes, fire extinguishers and ANSUL systems. Assist LACFD with knowledge of facility particularly related to Life Safety Systems and planning.
  • Manage the operation and care of all HVAC systems, packaged units, CRAC units, and cooling towers.
  • Manage regular testing and preventive maintenance of emergency generators, transfer switches, and fire life safety equipment.
  • Develop and execute energy efficient strategies and programs. Track energy consumption.
  • Oversee and manage maintenance materials, spare parts and equipment inventory and cost control.
  • Plans develops and tracks department budgets related to operating costs and maintenance programs.
  • Manage all service and repairs to food service and kitchen equipment.
  • Inspect and make necessary repairs as needed to electrical systems, pumps, motors, compressors, and plumbing.
  • Familiarity with event schedule and provide support for event requirements as needed.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS  

Required Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years’ experience in a public assembly facility.
  • Experience as a facility maintenance engineer preferred.
  • 4 years of experience leading or supervising a team.
  • Prioritize and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Have a diverse and strong technical background in all mechanical areas in both operating and troubleshooting.
  • EPA certification required.
  • Preferred possession of Sprinkler and Standpipe Certificate of Fitness.
  • Experience with DDC including BMS.
  • Required possession of OSHA 10 certification.
  • Fire Safety Director License required or preferred.
  • Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship with a diverse group.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively.
  • Skilled at working collaboratively and in a team environment.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.

Technical/Functional Competencies:

  • Ability to maintain, service and take an analytical approach to trouble shooting and repairing refrigeration compressors, package units, commercial food service refrigeration equipment, building systems pumps, 3 phase motors, and AC electrical distribution panels.
  • Plumbing abilities include sweating and brazing, ability to cut and install no hub, copper, galvanized and black iron pipe, as well as installation of plumbing fixture, e.g., toilets, sinks, urinals, and faucets. Must be able to use a mechanical snake to clear main line sewer stoppages.
  • Assist with carpentry, painting and all aspects of care and maintenance of the facility. Oil changes, lubes and other maintenance as needed
  • This position will play a key role in managing energy and utility consumption and in establishing efficient facility operating practices. An understanding of California energy codes and cost-effective management of utilities in an entertainment venue is a plus.

Compensation

  • The range for this position is $115,000 - $135,000 annual salary and an annual performance bonus. Compensation package offered will be based on multiple individualized factors, including a candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • The role is classified as exempt.
