Summary of Position:
The CNC Mill/Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC milling and lathe machines to produce precision parts that meet customer specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively to resolve manufacturing challenges.
Key Performance Indictors:
• Set up and operate CNC milling machines efficiently and accurately; perform manual machining on lathes and mills as required
• Produce parts that consistently meet customer specifications and quality standards
• Maintain adherence to established procedures, process parameters, and safety guidelines
• Collaborate with the Machine Shop Lead to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues
• Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring tools to ensure tolerance compliance
• Set up CNC machines, including tool selection, offsets, and program verification
• Operate CNC mills and lathes in accordance with work instructions and blueprints
• Manufacture fixtures and components for cable and connector assemblies
• Inspect and verify parts using micrometers, calipers, comparators, gage blocks, and other precision instruments
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with safety standards
• Identify and report process improvements or production issues
Qualifications and Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience setting up and operating CNC machines
• Proficiency in CNC mill setup and operation
• Ability to read and maintain tight tolerances (±0.0001)
• Experience working with a variety of materials, including aluminum, steel, plastic, and brass
• Ability to input and adjust tool offsets (e.g., end mills, drills) in CNC machines
• Strong understanding of shop mathematics and precision measurement tools
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); certification or formal training preferred
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
